Batting first, Thailand were given a solid platform by captain Naruemol Chaiwai, who struck 43 from 31 deliveries. However, their innings lost momentum dramatically towards the end as they slipped from a comfortable position to 120 for 9 after losing seven wickets for just 20 runs.

Hong Kong suffered an early setback when Mariko Hill was dismissed without scoring, but Kary Chan steadied the innings with an aggressive 28 off 20 balls. Yasmin Daswani also made 28, although her slower scoring rate made it difficult for Hong Kong to maintain the required tempo.
Lamplough then provided the chase with a much-needed boost, but her dismissal with the score on 84 for 4 swung the momentum back towards Thailand. Hong Kong were left needing 37 runs from the final 27 deliveries.
Thailand’s bowlers responded under pressure and restricted the scoring during the closing stages. Hong Kong managed only 30 more runs and reached 114 for 7, despite entering the final over requiring just 15 runs for victory.
Thipatcha Putthawong held her nerve brilliantly in the final over, conceding only eight runs while also claiming a wicket to seal Thailand’s narrow victory.
The result extended Thailand’s unbeaten record against Hong Kong to eight matches and gave them an ideal start to their Women’s Asia Cup campaign.
