Sri Lanka Hand Maiden T20I Call-Ups to Sanjana Kavindi and Chamudi Praboda

July 29: Sri Lanka have introduced fresh faces into their squad for the upcoming three-match Women's T20I series against Pakistan, rewarding youngsters Sanjana Kavindi and Chamudi Praboda with their first senior international call-ups.

The changes reflect the selectors' intention to gradually refresh the squad following Sri Lanka's Women's T20 World Cup campaign earlier this year while retaining the experienced core that recently guided the team to a 2-1 ODI series victory over Pakistan.

Two teenagers earn first opportunity

Seventeen-year-old Sanjana Kavindi, a left-handed top-order batter, and fellow Under-19 standout Chamudi Praboda have both been included in the 15-player squad.

Praboda, a slow left-arm spinner, is considered the more likely of the two debutants to feature during the series, thanks to the additional variety she offers in Sri Lanka's bowling attack.

Sanjana, meanwhile, faces strong competition for a place in a settled batting lineup led by several experienced performers.

Rashmika Sewwandi returns

Young fast bowler Rashmika Sewwandi has also returned to the national squad after missing the previous assignment.

The 19-year-old strengthens Sri Lanka's pace options as the hosts prepare for the T20I leg of the tour.

Three players miss out

The latest squad sees Hansima Karunaratne, Mithali Ayodhya, and Chethana Vimukthi omitted.

Vimukthi had joined the previous squad as an injury replacement after spinner Shashini Gimhani was ruled out.

Experienced core retained

Captain Chamari Athapaththu continues to lead an experienced group that remains largely unchanged.

The batting unit features dependable names including Harshitha Samarawickrama, Hasini Perera, and Vishmi Gunaratne, while all-rounder Kaveesha Dilhari provides balance in both departments.

Sri Lanka's spin attack will once again be spearheaded by Sugandika Kumari, supported by all-rounders Nilakshika Silva and Kaushini Nuthyangana, with young seamers Kawya Kavindi and Malki Madara also retaining their places.

Series begins in Dambulla

The three-match Women's T20I series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan gets underway in Dambulla on July 31, with the hosts aiming to carry their winning momentum from the ODI series into the shortest format.
