Nabi stars as Amazon Warriors make it six wins in a row

Guyana Amazon Warriors continued their outstanding run in CPL 2026, securing their sixth consecutive victory with a convincing seven-wicket win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Providence. The result kept the Warriors unbeaten and strengthened their position at the top of the tournament standings.

The victory was built around an excellent bowling performance, led by Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi. After Patriots captain Jason Holder won the toss and decided to bat first, the home side's bowlers quickly put the visitors under pressure and never allowed them to build a substantial total.

The Patriots initially made a promising start, with Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers adding 34 runs during the opening partnership. However, the innings quickly lost momentum after the Warriors struck three times during the powerplay, leaving the Patriots at 39 for 3.

Alick Athanaze then provided some much-needed stability. Coming in at No. 4, Athanaze played a patient but important innings of 52 from 39 deliveries. His knock became the backbone of the Patriots' innings as wickets continued to fall around him.

Romario Shepherd and Shamar Joseph were particularly effective with the ball. Shepherd finished with 3 for 16, while Joseph claimed 2 for 22. Nabi then produced the decisive spell, picking up four wickets for just 17 runs.

Nabi first removed Jason Holder in the ninth over, with the Patriots captain caught in the deep while attempting a slog sweep. He then ran through the lower order, dismissing Wanindu Hasaranga, Navin Bidaisee and Jeremiah Louis in quick succession.

By the 18th over, the Patriots had slipped to 114 for 8. Their hopes of reaching a competitive total were fading rapidly, and Dwaine Pretorius soon removed Ashmead Nedd to leave them nine wickets down.

Athanaze briefly gave the Patriots some hope by attacking Pretorius for a boundary and a six, but Shamar Joseph returned for the final over and ended the innings by dismissing Athanaze. The Patriots were bowled out for 128 with four balls still remaining.

With only 129 runs required for victory, Amazon Warriors were always favourites to complete the chase. Rahmanullah Gurbaz immediately provided the attacking intent the Warriors needed, helping his side race to 58 runs during the powerplay.

Gurbaz was eventually dismissed in the sixth over after scoring an aggressive 39 from 25 balls. His innings included several attacking strokes and ensured that the Warriors were well ahead of the required rate during the early stages of the chase.

Mavendra Dindyal struggled to find his rhythm and scored 17 from 16 balls before becoming the second wicket to fall. Shimron Hetmyer also departed soon afterwards, leaving the Warriors at 78 for 3 in the 11th over.

Despite the loss of three wickets, there was little genuine pressure on the Warriors because of the small target. Shai Hope and Nabi calmly took control of the chase and avoided taking unnecessary risks.

Hope played the role of the anchor, remaining unbeaten on 38 from 44 balls. He struck three boundaries but focused primarily on rotating the strike and ensuring there were no further setbacks.

Nabi, meanwhile, complemented Hope perfectly. After his outstanding four-wicket spell with the ball, he contributed an unbeaten 25 from 21 deliveries, hitting two fours and a six. Together, the pair guided Amazon Warriors across the finish line with nine balls remaining.

The seven-wicket victory means Guyana Amazon Warriors have now won all six of their matches in CPL 2026. Their consistency in both departments has made them the team to beat so far in the competition.

The only minor disappointment for the Warriors was that they did not finish the chase even more quickly, which could have further improved their net run rate. However, with a perfect six wins from six matches, the Warriors will be far more concerned about maintaining their unbeaten record than worrying about the additional net-run-rate advantage.

For the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, the defeat highlighted their struggles with both batting depth and their inability to sustain partnerships. Athanaze's half-century was the major positive, but the collapse from 114 for 8 ultimately left them with a total that was never likely to challenge an in-form Amazon Warriors side.

For Guyana, however, the match once again demonstrated their strength across the squad. Nabi's four-wicket haul, Shepherd and Joseph's supporting spells, Gurbaz's aggressive start and Hope's composed finish combined to produce another comprehensive performance.

With six victories from six games, Guyana Amazon Warriors have firmly established themselves as the early pace-setters of CPL 2026.
