Lisa Keightley Takes Up CA Development Role, WPL Future Uncertain

Lisa Keightley has been appointed Cricket Australia’s national development lead, taking on a new role focused on developing the next generation of talent in Australian women’s cricket.

Keightley, a former Australia and England head coach, will work on strengthening pathways and supporting players, coaches and staff across the country. She brings extensive experience to the position, having worked across international, domestic and development programmes.

Despite her new responsibilities, Keightley will continue as head coach of Sydney Thunder in the WBBL after signing a two-year contract extension in June.

However, her involvement with the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League is expected to come to an end. Keightley joined Mumbai last year after Charlotte Edwards took over as England head coach. Mumbai finished fourth last season with three wins from eight matches and missed the playoffs for the first time.

Her role with MI London in The Hundred remains undecided.

Keightley said she was excited to contribute to the future of Australian cricket, highlighting the importance of strong development pathways and providing young players with the right guidance and support.

Cricket Australia’s head of national development, Sonya Thompson, also praised Keightley’s experience across international, domestic and pathway programmes, saying her passion for developing players and helping them reach their potential made her well suited to the position.
