Kyle Jamieson was found guilty of violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the match between his team and Rajasthan Royals held on May 1, 2026.
The BCCI officially announced that Kyle Jamieson has violated the IPL Code of Conduct and a Level 1 offense had been committed by him as per Article 2.5 in regard to the gesture made towards a batter who has been bowled out.
He confessed to his misconduct and was given a warning along with one demerit point.
Kyle Jamieson removed 15-year-old opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the second over of Rajasthan Royals' batting lineup on May 1, 2026.
Following the removal of the teenager through a perfect yorker delivery, Jamieson showed off some aggression towards the batter by coming closer to him and giving him a clap on the face.
According to official statements released by the IPL authorities, this closeness and the type of "send-off" that he gave were viewed as aggressive behaviors.
They violated Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct, which does not allow disparaging or provocative gestures toward opponents.
The BCCI made an official announcement that Kyle Jamieson violated a Level 1 violation based on Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
Article 2.5 pertains to any acts or gestures that might make the batter react aggressively when he gets out of the game.
Jamieson confessed his wrongdoings and accepted the decision handed down by the match referee, who decided to warn him formally. The imposition of one demerit point followed suit against him.
The ruling is part of the usual process taken after the violation of a Level 1 violation since the decision of the referee is final and conclusive.
The Indian Premier League demerit system is intended to control the conduct of players on the playing field through the accumulation of demerits over a rolling two-year period.
Points are given for any breaches of the code of conduct, and the number of points awarded depends on the seriousness of the offense.
Level One offenses, including mild dissent or overly exuberant celebrations, result in a single demerit point, while Level Two offenses are met with two to three demerit points and monetary fines.
The sanction of a suspension from one match game occurs when four demerit points have been accumulated, and the suspension period extends to two games upon reaching eight points.
The demerit point levied against Jamieson is unlikely to impact his availability in the Delhi Capitals' squad for their next game since Level 1 charges do not automatically lead to a suspension from a game.
The player is free to participate in the Delhi Capitals' games in the next fixtures in the Indian Premier League.
Nevertheless, the disciplinary action should serve as a warning since repeated instances of misconduct could push Jamieson towards accruing four demerit points and facing a one-game suspension penalty.
