Bristol, July 8: India head into the fourth T20I against England under immense pressure, needing a victory to keep the five-match series alive after a crushing defeat in Nottingham left them trailing 2-1.
The world champions are on the verge of suffering back-to-back bilateral T20I series defeats for the first time since 2018-19. Captain Shreyas Iyer did not mince words after the 125-run loss, describing India's performance as "atrocious" and criticising the team's poor execution with both bat and ball, along with a disappointing fielding display.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir defended his side, insisting one heavy defeat does not define the team. He pointed out that seven members of the current XI were part of India's T20 World Cup-winning squad earlier this year and backed them to bounce back while maintaining their aggressive approach.
England, meanwhile, arrive in Bristol full of confidence. Under captain Harry Brook and head coach Brendon McCullum, they have emerged as one of the world's strongest T20 sides, winning 18 of their last 21 completed matches. A victory would secure England's first-ever men's bilateral T20I series win over India.
England are expected to retain the same playing XI after their dominant performance in the third match, with pace duo Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue once again leading the bowling attack after sharing seven wickets in Nottingham.
India, however, could make changes in a bid to revive the series. Washington Sundar and Suryansh Shedge are among the options being considered to strengthen the batting and provide greater balance. Shivam Dube, who has struggled in the last two games, will also be eager to rediscover his finishing touch.
The Bristol surface has traditionally produced high-scoring T20 contests, although recent domestic matches have been relatively moderate. Warm weather is expected once again, setting the stage for another entertaining encounter.
With England sensing a historic series victory and India fighting to avoid another rare bilateral defeat, the fourth T20I promises to be a high-pressure contest with plenty at stake for both teams.
