Hetmyer’s Blistering Century Guides Warriors to DLS Victory Over TKR

Shimron Hetmyer produced a sensational century as Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Trinbago Knight Riders by nine runs via the DLS method in a rain-affected Caribbean Premier League clash at Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad, on Monday.

The Warriors were asked to bat first in a match reduced to 16 overs after a lengthy rain interruption. Despite losing early wickets, they recovered strongly to post an imposing 185 for 5, with Hetmyer delivering a stunning late-innings assault.

Akeal Hosein made an immediate impact for TKR, dismissing Glenn Phillips and conceding just one run in the opening over. Sunil Narine then maintained the pressure with another economical over. Shai Hope briefly shifted the momentum by hitting two sixes, but Lahiru Kumara removed him in the fourth over.

Rain subsequently halted play for more than 90 minutes. Once the action resumed, Hetmyer took complete control of the innings. He launched consecutive sixes against Jyd Goolie before punishing Kumara for two fours and a six in the next over.

Matthew Nandu struggled to accelerate and was retired out for 13 from 21 balls at the end of the ninth over. Hetmyer, meanwhile, continued his onslaught and reached his half-century from just 27 deliveries.

The left-hander then produced one of the innings' most destructive overs, smashing 30 runs from Kumara's 13th over. Romario Shepherd added further momentum by taking Dominic Drakes for 27 in the 15th over.

Hetmyer completed his magnificent century with a six in the final over, finishing the Warriors' innings with a commanding 185 for 5 from 16 overs.

TKR's Chase Falls Short

With their target revised to 182, Trinbago Knight Riders made a promising start despite missing injured captain Kieron Pollard. They reached 52 for 1 during the Powerplay, with Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran putting together a brisk 35-run partnership after Sunil Narine's early dismissal.

However, Mohammad Nabi changed the complexion of the chase soon after the Powerplay. The experienced spinner dismissed Munro, triggering a dramatic collapse that saw TKR tumble from 52 for 1 to 68 for 5 in just three overs.

Alex Hales then mounted a spirited recovery. He first combined with Hosein for 43 runs before adding another 39 with Drakes to keep TKR's hopes alive.

The Knight Riders required 40 runs from the final two overs, but their chances took a major blow when Hales was dismissed immediately after completing his half-century.

Joshua Da Silva struck a couple of boundaries to keep the contest alive, but TKR could not produce the required finish. They needed 24 runs from the final over and ultimately fell nine runs short on the DLS method.

Hetmyer's explosive hundred and Nabi's three-wicket burst proved decisive as the Guyana Amazon Warriors maintained their unbeaten run with another important victory.
