Hampshire Sign Rishi Patel and Fynn Hudson-Prentice to Strengthen Squad for New Era

Southampton, July 6: Hampshire have bolstered their squad with the signings of Rishi Patel and Fynn Hudson-Prentice, as the club prepares for life after the red-ball retirements of long-serving stalwarts James Vince and Liam Dawson.

The duo will join Hampshire at the conclusion of the 2026 county season after their contracts with Leicestershire and Sussex expire.

The signings come during a challenging period for Hampshire, who narrowly avoided relegation from Division One last season and currently sit ninth in the County Championship standings after eight matches. The departure of Vince from first-class cricket last year, followed by Dawson's retirement in May, has left the club searching for experienced reinforcements.

Patel arrives after establishing himself as one of Leicestershire's most dependable batters. Over the past four seasons, the 27-year-old has averaged more than 41 in first-class cricket, scoring eight centuries and 15 half-centuries. He has also showcased his white-ball credentials with two T20 hundreds.

"I'm really looking forward to joining Hampshire," Patel said. "The club is ambitious and highly successful, particularly in white-ball cricket, and I hope I can contribute across all formats. I'll always be grateful to Leicestershire, but I feel this is the right time for a new challenge."

Hudson-Prentice will also make the move after five seasons with his boyhood club Sussex. The experienced all-rounder, who previously represented Derbyshire, brings versatility with both bat and ball and is expected to add valuable depth to Hampshire's squad.

"I've loved my time at Sussex and it's been a privilege to represent my boyhood club," Hudson-Prentice said. "But I believe it's the right time for a fresh challenge. Hampshire has an exciting squad and I'm looking forward to working with Russell Domingo and the team."

Hampshire Director of Cricket Giles White welcomed both signings, highlighting Patel's consistency at the top of the order and Hudson-Prentice's all-round value.

"We're delighted to welcome both Rishi and Fynn to the club," White said. "Rishi has developed into a reliable run-scorer, while Fynn adds experience, quality with the ball and valuable batting depth. Together, they bring balance and strength to our squad."

While Hampshire continue to battle near the foot of the County Championship table, they have enjoyed a far stronger campaign in the Vitality Blast, where they currently lead the South Group with Vince and Dawson still playing key roles in the T20 format.
