Esha Oza will once again lead the United Arab Emirates as the hosts prepare for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai.
The UAE have named their squad for the eight-team tournament, with Oza set to captain the side throughout their campaign. The hosts have been placed in Group B alongside defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
UAE will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. With home support behind them, Oza is confident that her team can put up a strong challenge against the reigning champions.
Playing in front of family and friends will make the tournament particularly special for the UAE captain. Oza also recalled the team’s previous home meeting with Sri Lanka, where the UAE pushed their opponents closely before falling short.
The UAE will now look to go one step further and secure a memorable victory on home soil.
With only the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals, the hosts will need to make a strong start and maintain consistency throughout the group stage. The knockout phase is scheduled to begin on 10 September.
For Oza and her teammates, the tournament represents an opportunity to showcase the growth of women’s cricket in the UAE while competing against some of Asia’s strongest sides.
