Chennai Super Kings return to familiar conditions at Chepauk hoping to rebuild their once-formidable home dominance as they take on a confident Punjab Kings in IPL 2026.
After a heavy defeat in their opener, CSK will welcome a shift to Chennai, where conditions traditionally favour controlled batting and tactical bowling. However, their famed fortress showed cracks last season, with just one win in six matches at home. Re-establishing that advantage will be crucial.
CSK are likely to remain without MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis, leaving their middle order vulnerable. Much will depend on captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has an excellent record at Chepauk but has struggled for consistency recently.
Punjab Kings, meanwhile, arrive with momentum and balance. Led by Shreyas Iyer—declared fit after a minor injury—they boast a powerful batting lineup. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh are known for explosive powerplay hitting, while players like Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh provide depth and finishing ability.
PBKS also have a strong record at Chepauk, winning five of their nine matches at the venue and claiming victory in their last three visits. Their bowling attack, featuring Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal, poses a significant threat. Chahal, in particular, has enjoyed success against CSK and holds a favourable match-up against Sanju Samson.
The contest could hinge on key battles, including Shivam Dube’s power-hitting against Chahal’s spin. With both teams evenly matched historically, this fixture promises to be a crucial early test.
For CSK, it’s about restoring pride at home. For PBKS, it’s a chance to continue their strong run and assert themselves as early contenders.
