Kira Chathli and Ryana MacDonald-Gay starred as England A Women's cricket team defeated India A Women's cricket team by five wickets in the second T20, levelling the three-match series 1-1.
Chasing a challenging target of 173, England A produced a composed batting effort led by captain Chathli, who smashed 53 off just 26 balls. Her aggressive knock, combined with valuable contributions from Grace Scrivens (39) and Bess Heath (40* off 23), helped the hosts cross the line comfortably.
Earlier, India A posted 172 for 4 thanks largely to a brilliant 79 off 53 balls from Vrinda Dinesh, who kept the scoreboard moving with attacking strokeplay. She was supported by Purvaja Verlekar and skipper Anushka Sharma, both of whom added useful runs in quick partnerships.
Despite India A’s strong total, MacDonald-Gay’s disciplined spell of 2 for 10 proved decisive. Her accuracy and 19 dot balls helped keep England in control, even though the fielding unit put down five catches.
With the series now tied, both teams head into the decider at Chelmsford with everything to play for.
