Chase aims to make Caribbean a fortress ahead of second Pakistan Test

West Indies captain Roston Chase wants his side to turn home conditions into a fortress as they look to seal a series victory over Pakistan in the second and final Test, beginning on Sunday at Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain.

Fresh from leading West Indies to victories over Sri Lanka and Pakistan in two of their last three Tests, Chase believes the team is building exactly as planned and is determined to make the Caribbean one of the toughest places for touring sides.

"We're exactly where we want to be," Chase said. "After last year, we sat down and discussed where we wanted this team to go. We've made progress, but now we want to level up. We need to stick to the processes we've worked on and execute them as well as we can to secure another win."

Home dominance the priority

West Indies have enjoyed an impressive run on home soil, crushing Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs in the opening Test of that series before drawing the second. They followed that with a 90-run victory over Pakistan in the first Test at Tarouba.

Another win would lift West Indies above England into seventh place in the World Test Championship standings.

Chase believes home conditions should provide a significant advantage and wants his side to make the most of it.

"We're very happy with the results we've had at home so far," he said. "But I want to make home our fortress, where teams find it extremely difficult to come to the Caribbean and beat us.

"These are our conditions. We understand them better than anyone else, so we have to make home advantage count. We've been doing that well and hopefully we can continue that momentum in this Test."

Spin could play a bigger role

Unlike the opening Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, the surface at Queen's Park Oval is expected to provide greater assistance to spin bowlers.

That could benefit both teams, although Chase's own bowling remains uncertain after he injured his right index finger and did not bowl during the first Test.

Providing an update on his recovery, Chase sounded optimistic.

"It's getting better," he said. "I bowled a couple of overs in the nets today and there's still a bit of pain, but hopefully by Sunday I'll be able to bowl four or five overs consistently."

West Indies have left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican leading their spin attack, while uncapped left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop remains an option if conditions demand an additional slow bowler.

Pakistan, meanwhile, could strengthen their spin resources after fielding Ali Usman as their only specialist spinner in the first Test. Experienced offspinner Sajid Khan is available, while captain Salman Ali Agha also provides another spin option as the visitors look to end a run of eight consecutive away Test defeats.
