Bangladesh Pace Attack Gains Belief After Historic Australia Test Tour

Pace bowling coach Talha Jubair believes Bangladesh’s fast bowlers have developed the confidence and ability to take 20 wickets overseas after an impressive showing against Australia.

Bangladesh returned home from a memorable Test tour of Australia with renewed belief that their pace attack can deliver victories outside familiar conditions.

The Tigers drew the two-match series 1-1, producing a historic nine-wicket victory in the opening Test before Australia bounced back in the second match. Despite the series being levelled, Bangladesh’s fast bowlers emerged as one of the biggest positives from the tour.

Talha Jubair, Bangladesh’s pace bowling coach, said the performances have given the team confidence that they can compete for Test victories abroad.

“When your pace bowlers are performing well, that’s when you can realistically hope to win Test matches away from home. You need to take 20 wickets. This is definitely a good sign for us, and I hope they can maintain their form,” Talha told reporters after returning from Australia.

Bangladesh’s bowling unit played a major role in their dominant performance in the first Test, restricting Australia and putting the hosts under pressure throughout the match. Australia, however, responded strongly in the second Test, while Bangladesh’s batting collapsed in both innings, failing to reach 100 on either occasion.

Talha admitted the batting struggles were a major factor in the second Test and pointed to the toss as another important turning point.

“This is a team game. There is definitely a concern that if the batters had done a little better, we might have had an even better result in the second Test,” he said.

He added that the pitch offered unusual bounce in the second Test, which Bangladesh struggled to handle.

“The toss was very vital because the wicket had a lot of tennis-ball bounce. We couldn’t cope with that, and that’s where we had some difficulty,” Talha explained.

Despite the setback, Talha believes the victory in the opening Test has sent an important message about Bangladesh’s growing ability to challenge top teams away from home.

“Beating Australia is a massive deal for us. It sends a message to world cricket that we can beat anyone. This experience will be enormously useful in our upcoming tours,” he said.

Talha Praises Preparation and Tactical Planning

Talha, who replaced Shaun Tait as Bangladesh’s pace bowling coach, said working with the national fast bowlers was not particularly difficult because of his long-standing relationship with the group.

“I’ve been coaching fast bowlers for a long time. Working with bowlers wasn’t something entirely new for me,” he said.

The bigger challenge, according to Talha, was developing specific strategies to exploit the weaknesses of Australia’s batters. Bangladesh’s analyst Shaon also played an important role in identifying those weaknesses.

“We bowled extensively at the weakness of each of their batsmen,” Talha said, highlighting the importance of their tactical preparation.

He also revealed that Bangladesh entered the first Test with genuine belief that they could defeat Australia, despite a disappointing performance in the practice match.

“We certainly had the hope and belief that we could beat Australia. The preparation we did before the first Test was excellent, and everyone adjusted very well,” he said.

Talha stressed that the team focused on its own strengths rather than becoming overwhelmed by Australia’s reputation.

“We felt that if we focus on our own game rather than worrying about the opponent, we can produce something good. You saw how we dominated and won the first Test, and that was very pleasing.”

The 1-1 series result has therefore left Bangladesh with more than just a historic victory. Their pace attack has gained valuable overseas experience and, according to Talha, the confidence that they can consistently take 20 wickets and compete for Test wins on foreign soil.
